Windebank Families,
Our parking lot continues to be a hectic place where there have been multiple near misses and several fender benders. We understand the heightened stress and the desire for convenience during pick-up and drop-off times; however, our parking lot has become unsafe. Along with our student population, which has continued to grow, our staff has also grown; we currently have 41 designated parking spaces and over 50 staff. As a result, parking spaces are only for staff.
Some of the most recent concerns with overcrowding in the parking lot include:
β’ Our garbage was not able to be picked up this week as a truck was parked in front of the bins when the truck arrived to pick it up; we pay for the service regardless of pick up or not.
β’ A staff member was nearly hit as a car illegally passed the parked bus on the right as students were loading.
β’ The bus has been unable to leave the parking lot on multiple occasions as cars are parked on both sides of the roadway.
β’ Staff members cannot leave for appointments and pick up their children at the end of the day as vehicles are parked in the laneways of the parking lot.
These incidents underscore the importance of following parking regulations and being mindful of safety considerations during drop-off and pick-up times.
Our designated parking areas are exclusively reserved for individuals with handicap signs. To ensure smooth traffic flow and safety for all, we kindly request that you refrain from parking in the school lot during student pick-up times.
Instead, we encourage parking on the street following city by-laws or across the street at the middle school. Do not park in the mall across the street; we have received multiple complaints from mall management. Please communicate this message to family, friends, and daycares who pick up or drop off your child/children.
At Windebank, we believe in leading by example. Your support in adhering to these parking guidelines not only aids in the smooth functioning of our school operations but also demonstrates a sense of respect and consideration for each other, setting a positive example for our students.
Your understanding, cooperation, and support in adhering to these parking guidelines are deeply appreciated. Let's work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our school community.
Warm regards,
Amanda Evans and Lisa Clarke
